Benefits of Placenta Consumption • Increased Milk Supply • Decreased postpartum bleeding • Enhances mood, with decrease in “baby blues” • Good source of iron (up to 25% of the RDA) • Balances hormones • Regulates sleep patterns • Quicker overall recovery Placenta Encapsulation The most common way to ingest after birth placenta is to dehydrate it, grind it into a fine powder and place it in capsules. It is then taken like a supplement on a daily basis. Raw Placenta Cubes This is the only truly raw method. The placenta is separated into cubes and then placed in the freezer to use in smoothies at a later time. Placenta Tincture A tincture is made by placing a small piece of the raw placenta in high grade alcohol and left to macerate for several weeks. This can increase the length and benefits of your placenta for both mother and child. The tincture can be used in any time of trauma, transition, emotional distress, menstrual difficulties and for mother later in life during menopause. Placenta Prints The prints are done before any washing or preparing of the placenta occurs, as it is the natural placenta blood that creates the print, and the prints are done on acid-free artists paper. Some families frame and hang them, or can be kept for personal keepsakes Lotus Birth Lotus birth (or umbilical non-severance) is the practice of leaving the umbilical cord uncut after childbirth so that the baby is left attached to the placenta until the cord naturally separates at the umbilicus.
